Welcome to the the M.S.A.D. #55 Adult and Community Education Website. We hope that you will find this site helpful to reveal all the exciting programs that are offered through the Adult Learning Center.
* You can now search for courses from our program as well as from other adult education programs across the state: Search for courses. You can also browse our courses by category if you prefer. Our website is a part of the Maine Adult Education Portal, sponsored and managed by the Maine Adult Education Association. When you visit the new MAEA website online at http://www.maineadulted.org, you can search for courses and programs statewide to find the perfect class closest to where you work or live. Please note, however, that M.S.A.D. #55 Adult ED is not set up to accept registration fees on line.
* You can find answers to important questions about our program, schedules, registering, and the adult education system by searching or browsing Frequently Asked Questions section.
* Did you know that a tutoring program is available for community members wishing to review and increase their skills and/or earn their GED diploma? Educational assistance is available for math, reading, keyboarding, and job-seeking skills with cover-letter writing and resume assembly. *
As the seasons turn from spring to summer in our community, please be sure to watch this website for the upcoming offerings that will be part of the Spring 2010 semester starting in January and running through May. Also, be watching for the 15th Annual Adult Education Graduation news.

The M.S.A.D. #55 15th Annual Adult Education Graduation Ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on the evening of Thursday, June 9, 2011. We will look forward to honoring our graduates for their educational, vocational, and personal achievements!
Spring is coming...believe it or not.
Our spring semester, which runs from January to May, is upon us. Warm up this winter or wecome the warmth of spring by taking a class. Several exciting courses are being offered to include: Zumba, gardening courses, watercolor painting, choosing healthy foods, and a Phillipping and Gluten-Free cooking classes as well as computer, career, and literacy classes.

As always, if you have a skill, talent, or specific course offering that you would like to share with the adults in our community, please forward your proposal to the M.S.A. D. #55 Adult and Community Education office or feel free to call the office.
M.S.A.D. #55 ACE offers numerous vocational services FREE of charge. They are as follows:
job-seeking skills and interviewing strategies
career guidance/counseling
cover letter writing and resume design
job advertisement analysis
educational goal setting
careers, professions, and vocations research.
Microsoft Word is available to word process a cover letter & resume!

Have you ever thought about becoming a CNA? 
If you are seeking a challenging and rewarding career in the medical field, this course will provide you with the skills and experience to be Maine State Certified as a Nursing Assistant. Nurse’s aide skills will be taught in an interactive classroom setting, and a two-week clinical experience will follow. The course will focus on nursing theory and application, including basic anatomy & physiology, and clinical performance. Applicants are strongly encouraged to job shadow a CNA before interviewing.
Lewiston Adult Education's Certified Nursing Assistant course will meet Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:00-9:00 pm, starting February 15th.
Students can only be admitted to the program after a successful interview with the instructor. Interviews will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, February 8th and 9th, at 4:00 pm. All program applicants must also take the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) before they can be interviewed. If you have not taken a CASAS test before, you can take the test prior to the interview at 3:00 pm here at Lewiston High School. If you have already taken the CASAS test, have your scores faxed to us at 795-4173 prior to the interview.
Prerequisites: HS Diploma/GED, CASAS test, interview. All registrations must be made in person. Full payment is due before the first class. Before a student can begin the clinical phase of the program they must produce documentation of a recent medical physical examination conducted and signed by a physician as well as the following vaccinations: Hep B1, MMR, Tetanus, Chicken Pox, TB. Lab Fee for Background Check is nonrefundable.
Cost: $790, plus $60 Lab fee.
