Tips for New (and not-so-new) Directors
- 1. Look to your community. Call your friends, call your foes. Do your own quick needs assessment.
- 2. Have a vision for your program - as a way of making a difference for people. Don't automatically accept the constraints offered by others. Keep and use data - diaries, scrapbooks, figures. Make MAEMIS work for you. Be looking ahead; opportunities come in strange forms.
- 3. Understand money. Get cozy with your bookkeeper. Use mentors. Use Andy McMahan at Maine DOE.
- 4. Have no shame about borrowing ideas that work. Seek out information on other programs. Check those web sites on the Members Page!
- 5. There is no such thing as too much publicity for growing your program. Aim for a press release weekly. Feature people and success.
